Directory
Please visit the Rappahannock Area Health District at https://www.vdh.virginia.gov/rappahannock/.

There are two separate offices of the Stafford Health Department. The branch located at the Stafford County Administration Center provides medical services and clinics for adults, women, and children. They also are involved with communicable disease investigations.

Protect Yourself & Your Children from Whooping Cough (also known as Pertussis): For a limited time, the Rappahannock Area Health District is offering Tdap - the Tetanus, Diphtheria, and Pertussis booster at no charge. Parents, grandparents, teachers, childcare workers, and more are welcome to get your Tdap booster!

Flu shots: Fredericksburg Health Department offers flu shots for a charge of $30.00 to children and adults in our community. For adults and children with insurance, we can bill Medicare, Anthem PPO, and Southern Health for the charge of your vaccine. Children who are uninsured, have Medicaid, or Medicaid HMO can receive their flu shot at no charge.

Environmental Services

The Environmental Section of the Health Department is located at the Rowser Building at 1739 Jefferson Davis Highway which is adjacent to the Log Cabin Restaurant. This office provides environmental services in three basic areas: restaurant and food program, rabies control program, and sewage and water program.

The restaurant and food program provides inspections of food service facilities (which include schools and day care centers) to evaluate food handling procedures, investigations of food related illnesses, and general complaints. This also includes inspection of temporary food service vendors. The program also provides plan review for building and remodeling projects for food service facilities, training for food service operators, and permit issuance for the facilities.

The rabies control program provides investigation, advice on proper management of animal bite incidents, and notice for animal confinement/release. When determined necessary, specimens are collected and delivered to the lab for rabies analysis. The water and sewage program provides review of AOSE (Authorized Onsite Soil Evaluator) well and sewage disposal system permits and subdivision submittals, permits for repair of sewage disposal systems, and permits for replacement wells and well abandonments.
