Changes to Mail-In Ballots for the November 7 Election

Voters should be aware of a change to the requirements for mail-in ballots for the November 7 election and moving forward. A witness signature is no longer required on the envelope. Voters are now asked to provide their social security number's last four digits and birth year. This was a change enacted by the Virginia General Assembly through House Bill 1948.

Voters may request mail-in ballots by contacting the Voter Registrar’s Office at (540) 658-4000 or registrar@staffordcountyva.gov. The deadline to request a mail-in ballot is October 27, 2023, at 5:00 p.m.

Completed ballots returned to the registrar must be postmarked by Election Day, November 7, 2023, and received by noon the third day after the election. Ballots may be dropped in a drop box. One is in the Voter Registrar’s Office at the George L. Gordon, Jr., Government Center, 1300 Courthouse Road, Stafford, VA 22554, available during normal business hours. There is one in Conference Room ABC where early voting takes place. On Election Day, a drop box will be located at every precinct.

If you were mailed a ballot and opt to vote in person, the Voter Registrar asks that you bring your mail-in ballot when you vote.
