At its March 1, 2022 meeting, the Board of Supervisors voted to advertise the Calendar Year 2022 real estate tax rate at $0.885 and the personal property tax rate at $5.49. The Board is required by Virginia law to set an advertised rate, which is the maximum rate they can choose to adopt. The final tax rate is scheduled to be set on April 19, 2022. Before the final tax rate adoption, citizens may provide input at a public hearing on April 5, 2022, at 7:00 p.m. Input may be provided electronically starting April 1, 2022, by visiting www.staffordcountyva.gov/publichearing.
The Board will continue to hold additional work sessions leading up to April 19, 2022, when the Board is scheduled to consider the adoption of the Fiscal Year 2023 Budget. These sessions are all open to the public. The Board will hold a public hearing on the adoption of the CY22 final tax rate, FY23 Budget, Virginia Public School Authority Debt Issuance, Cigarette Tax, Utilities Water and Sewer Rate and Capital Improvement Program (CIP) at the public hearing on April 5, 2022, as mentioned above.

The Board also decided to advertise a new Fire Levy* that will tax at the same real estate tax base, but those funds will only be spent on Fire and Rescue needs.
The County Administrator presented the Fiscal Year 2023 Proposed Budget to the Board of Supervisors on February 15, 2022.
