Summer Reading at Stafford Libraries

summerreadingweb

Libraries are great when we need to study, a place to meet with friends, or enjoy a wonderful learning environment built for everyone, especially in the summer. Stafford County partners with the Central Rappahannock Regional Library System to operate the Porter and Howell branches along with several other branches across the region available to our residents.. These branches offer many programs and opportunities to learn, including a summer reading program happening now ending August 31.

People of all ages can sign up online to be a part of the summer reading program, which allows you to track your progress and earn points. Through your online account, you can log book titles and reading minutes. The best part is that adults can also participate so that the whole family can join in the fun.

Another great way to earn points is through completing “missions.” Attending events or finding adventure in the community counts toward collecting “mission” points earning 100 points for each one. If you are a nature fanatic, then you may want to check out the “birding” missions where you can earn points by creating a bird feeder. You could also take a walk and chart the birds you observe. Government Island in Stafford County is a fantastic place to begin where you can explore not only birds and other wildlife but also see the Aquia Sandstone, which was used in the building of the White House. Willowmere Park also provides a walking trail in Stafford County as well as baseball and soccer fields if you want to enjoy a game or have a picnic after bird watching! Completing missions in Stafford provide an excellent way to understand the place you live.

The Porter library offers classes in various games such as chess and mahjong. Alternatively, if you want to stay creative then photographing places you love across Stafford is an excellent way to learn while gaining points. Once you have collected enough points, you can enter a raffle; win movie tickets, an iPad, Nook tablets, or book baskets!

The library is a vital part of the community, especially in Stafford. The summer reading program is an example of how Stafford County libraries encourage residents to get creative, meet others and be active in our community. Visit the library closest to you today or check out www.crrl.org to discover more. The library has many opportunities to keep your summer fun, busy, and exciting. Don’t miss out!
