Dog tags are required for all dogs in the County over 4 months of age. *Note: In order to purchase a 3 year license, there must be at least two years remaining on the current rabies vaccination

As of July 1, 2007 veterinarians are required to report to the Treasurer of the locality in which they practice within 45 days of giving a rabies vaccine. The Code of Virginia (3.1-796.87:1) mandates the Treasurer to transmit an application to all dog owners that have not purchased a dog license within 90 days of the rabies vaccination. Failure to purchase a dog license within 30 days of receipt of the application requires the Treasurer's Office to notify Animal Control of the unlicensed animal.
A current rabies vaccination receipt must be presented when purchasing a dog
tag. If the dog has been spayed or neutered since the date of the vaccination, proof of alteration from the veterinarian must be provided in order to purchase a discounted dog tag.
Dog tags may be purchased in the office or by mail with the
appropriate information and fees. An application
