• Processes building, rezoning and grading permit applications for residential and commercial development;

• Monitors and enforces the requirements of the Virginia Uniform Statewide Building Code, and the Zoning, Erosion and Sediment Control and Stormwater Management Ordinances;

• Performs inspections of building and land development;

• Administers the Board of Building Code Appeals and the Americans with Disabilities Act Grievance Committee processes;
  
  
• Administers and enforces the floodplain management requirements of the National Flood Insurance Program; and

• Investigates citizen identified property maintenance, land use, erosion and stormwater drainage concerns.

The Department is located in the County Administration Center and is open for business Monday through Friday between 8:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.  Citizens may call 540-658-8650 for more information and questions on Department services.
