Stafford To Close Shelters at Noon Today, February 7, 2010

February 7

In cooperation with the Rappahannock Region of the American Red Cross, Stafford County will demobilize the two emergency shelters that were activated the day before the winter storm.  Current patrons of the facilities are being assisted with returning home, or being offered alternate lodging.

To ensure the availability of accommodating community needs, the County and Red Cross will continue utilizing alternate lodging facilities for those that cannot occupy their homes due to power outage or accessibility.

Realizing that cold temperatures and significant snowfall on the roadways may still generate the need for large volume requests, Stafford County and the Red Cross have contingency plans to rapidly re-open an emergency shelter if the need arises.

Citizens requesting shelter should continue using the County hotline at 540-658-5751.
