CAN I APPLY FOR A POSITION AT ANY TIME?
The County of Stafford accepts applications only for current vacancies.  Applications/resumes are not kept on file for future openings.

HOW WILL I KNOW WHAT JOBS I’M QUALIFIED FOR AND WHEN TO APPLY?
When a position becomes available, the Department of Human Resources issues an announcement for the position which contains a brief job description, required minimum experience, qualifications, licenses, certifications, etc. You must apply online by 4:30 p.m. on the job closing date.

HOW DO I FILE MY APPLICATION?
You can apply online by simply selecting the job you are interested in, then select "APPLY".

It is very important that you fill out the application completely even if you attach a resume. Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of the information that you have provided on the application itself. Be sure to include typing speed, special skills, certifications and licenses. Your resume will only be reviewed for clarification purposes.

WHAT SHOULD I DO IF MY ADDRESS OR PHONE NUMBER CHANGES?
Notify the Department of Human Resources immediately. We will make the necessary changes to your records. If we are unable to contact you because you have moved or changed your phone number, your name may be withdrawn from further consideration.

IF I’VE PREVIOUSLY COMPLETED AN APPLICATION, WILL I AUTOMATICALLY BE CONSIDERED FOR OTHER POSITIONS?
You must submit a separate application for all positions you are interested in.

WHAT HAPPENS AFTER I FILE MY APPLICATION?
Each application is given careful consideration. The volume of applications received is generally large, and the screening process can take several weeks.  We realize it can be frustrating, but please be patient.

WHAT ARE THE STEPS OR STAGES OF THE SELECTION PROCESS?
The aspects of the selection process vary depending on the position.  For example, an application screening and selection interview may be all that is required. Or, you may be required to pass a written exam. A performance test may be required for a position requiring certain skills, such as typing or the operation of heavy equipment.

IF A TEST IS GIVEN, DOES EVERYONE WHO APPLIES TAKE THE TEST?
Any decision made regarding the applicants to be tested is based on the requirements of the position. Only those candidates whose experience and training most closely match the County’s requirements for the position will be contacted to take part in the competitive testing process.

WHAT SHOULD I DO IF I AM CALLED FOR AN INTERVIEW?
Be certain that you know where and when to report, who the interviewer is, and the position for which you are being considered. This is important if you have applied for more than one position. Be sure to obtain the name and phone number of the person who contacted you for the interview.
