The Stafford County Department of Utilities is committed to providing the best water and wastewater services in Virginia. To help us meet this goal, we presently have many projects in design and construction to increase capacity, meet tougher regulatory requirements, and generally improve our level of service. In some cases, these projects will require temporary disruption in service along with the inconvenience of construction operations. We hope all affected customers will be patient with the temporary inconvenience. A partial list of current projects is as follows:Major Construction Projects:
Rocky Pen Run Reservoir and Treatment Facility: Construction of a new drinking water supply reservoir and treatment facility.
Claiborne Run Sewer Improvements: This project replaces 6100 feet of aging, undersized sewer line with a new 42" pipe to provide additional capacity in the southern part of the County. Work on the first phase began in August of 2006. Construction of the second phase is scheduled to begin in 2008.
Mountainview Road Waterline: Construction of 1,800 feet new 18" water line on Mountainview Road north of Centreport Parkway. This new line will connect the dead-end line along Centreport Parkway to the existing water line from the Abel Lake Water Treatment Plant and the existing line on Mountainview Road. This newly looped system will provide increased fire flows in the Centreport area and to the Stafford Regional Airport. Construction began in late 2007.
Phase 1 Sewer Extension Projects: The following sewer extensions began in the second half of 2007.
- Jett Street - 168 feet of 8-inch sewer to serve property at the intersection of Jett Street and Hilltop Street with existing failed septic system.
- Lake Shore Drive - construction of 168 feet of 8-inch sewer line to serve 133 Lake Shore, replacing an existing septic system.
- Little Whim - Construction of 479 feet of 8-inch sewer to replace existing pump-and-haul service at 44 Little Whim Road.
- Manning Drive - 834 feet of 8-inch sewer to provide service to seven properties along Manning Drive and north of Forbes Street. New line replaces existing failed septic systems.
- Shelton Shop Road - Construction of 276 feet of 8-inch sewer along easements to provide service to property at intersection of Shelton Shop and Whispering Pines Outlet Road, to replace existing failed septic system.
Upper Accokeek Wastewater Pump Station: Construction of a replacement pumping station with increased capacity to serve new commerical and residential customers in central Stafford County. Construction is scheduled to begin later this year.
