The Stafford Beautification Committee has developed a comprehensive education program for elementary school students. These presentations were approved by the Stafford County School Board and focus heavily on covering relevant Standards of Learning. A detailed description of each presentation is listed below. Title Think Earth SOL: Science

Resources K-10 /

Resources 1-8

Length 40 minutes
Age level Preschool through 1st grade
Group size 10 to 50
Subject Teaches the recycling process with hands on samples, “Close the Loop” game, video and paint sheets.


 

Title Conserving Natural Resources SOL: Science

Resources K.10 / Resources 1.8Living Systems 2.5 / Resources 2.8, Resources 3.10 & 3.11.

Age level Grades K through 3
Group size 10 to 50
Subject *This version is done in two levels; one for K & 1st grades and one for 2nd and 3rd grades.Stresses “natural resources” and things we can do to save them.Stresses reuse and conserving.Interactive game hands visual examples and hands on materials.

Subject Teaches the causes and effects of littering on the environment.Uses locally made video and related quiz.Uses interactive game.Covers local facts and figures.


 

Title Leave Out Littering
Length 30 minutes
Age level High School
Group size 25 to 50.
Subject Designed for driver ed classes.Shows video on the causes and effects of littering.Covers local facts and figures related to littering as well as local laws.Provides car litterbags, key chains.


 

Title Landfill Tours
Length 1 ½ hours
Age level All ages to adults
Group size May limit or otherwise coordinate event.Group sizes are best at around

12 – 20 per tour.

Subject Groups are able to walk through the regional landfill.Tour includes the waste collection facility the recycling processing facility as well as the landfill section.Groups may then enjoy inside related activities at the site.
