Sheriff's Office & Recycling
The Stafford Sheriff's Office works in conjunction with the Rappahannock
Regional Solid Waste Management Board and the Recycling and Litter Prevention
Office in the areas of public awareness, education and enforcement. Deputies in
the Traffic Unit assist the Recycling Coordinator at the Regional Landfill in
conducting litter-prevention workshops, handing out informational brochures and
enforcing Stafford's litter laws.
Stafford's Litter Laws
The Stafford County Code requires anyone who transports loose material in
their vehicle to cover the contents or convey them in tightly secured and
covered boxes or containers. Residents who do not properly secure their loads
and are caught by the Sheriff’s Office are subject to fines or other punishments
such as community service hours.
Secure Your Load Workshops
The Rappahannock Regional Solid Waste Management Board (R-Board)
sponsors free workshops for Stafford and Fredericksburg citizens who want to
combat litter. The workshops teach residents how to prevent littering by
properly securing their vehicle loads so that items will not fall out of their
vehicles.
The workshops cover Stafford’s litter laws. They include two booth
presentations as well as a video. After completing these, participants receive a
free tarp kit to cover their vehicles.
For more information on upcoming workshops, call Diane Jones, Stafford's
Recycling Coordinator at (540) 658-8680 or e-mail recycling@co.stafford.va.us.
