The
Stafford County Cemetery Advisory Committee was created in June 1995 and
endorsed by the Board of Supervisors through Resolution R95-332. The main
goal of the Cemetery Committee is to identify and document unknown
cemeteries in Stafford County and present those records to
the public. SCCC members have helped to identify over 400 Stafford County family and community
cemeteries.
ADOPT-A-CEMETERY PROGRAM
The
Stafford County Adopt-a-Cemetery Program was created in 2006 as a way of
connecting individuals, groups, and organizations with Stafford County
cemeteries that are in need of attention and maintenance. Anyone
interested in the proper care and preservation of cemeteries or a particular
cemetery is eligible to participate, including Scout groups, church groups,
history organizations, school groups, as well as individuals. The adopting
group or individual is responsible for the general clean up & routine
maintenance of a chosen cemetery and adhering to the rules and regulations
established by the Cemetery Committee. The SCCC provides assistance
by obtaining permission from the cemetery owner and acting as a liaison
between the adopting group and the property owner.
