Health Department
The local office of the
State Health Department, located at the
Stafford County Administration
Center, provides environmental services
in three basic areas: restaurant and
food program, rabies control
program, and water and sewage program. These
services are provided by
the Environmental Health Specialists.
The restaurant and food program provides plan review for building and
remodeling projects, for restaurants, routine visits to evaluate food
handling
procedures, investigations of food related illnesses and
complaints,
consultation, training, and permit issuance for the
operations.
The rabies control program provides investigation, advice on proper
management, and notice for animal confinement. When determined
necessary,
specimens are collected and delivered to the lab for rabies
analysis.
The water and sewage program provides site evaluation, system design, and
permit issuance or denial for septic system or well is installed, an
installation inspection is conducted. The environmental health
specialist also
conducts investigations of malfunctioning septic
systems and water problems
relating to private wells. Permits to
modify, repair, or replace these systems
must be issued by the Health
Department.
In addition, the Health Department also inspects summer migrant labor camps,
campgrounds, and marinas.
