Stafford Historical Society

Stafford County is one of the most historic counties in the United States. Aside form the presence of dinosaur tracks and a rich Native American History, there is much Colonial and Civil War history of interest to many. For modern times, the Marine Headquarters at Quantico, just across our northern county line, includes the newly established National Marine Museum which attracts thousands of annual visitors. It is located just off I-95 near exit 153.

Stafford is located 25 miles south of the Washington, DC beltway and is about 50 miles north of Virginia’s capital, Richmond, and is convenient to Jamestown, Williamsburg and Yorktown as well.

For those interested in history, Stafford can also serve as a center of activity for day trips to visit Montpelier, Monticello, Stratford Hall, Mt Vernon and four of the local Civil War Battlefields which are located within a 20 mile radius.
