Stafford Historical Society

Stafford County was formed in 1664 and during Colonial times most residential settlement was along the Potomac and Rappahannock River fronts. Farming, fishing and mining were early enterprises.

The village of Falmouth was once the largest seaport in that “new world.” As larger ships were required, deeper water was necessary.

In the late 80s the Falmouth Village History Society was formed but in 1993 following population growth throughout the county, the Society was renamed and a broader membership base has resulted.
