George Schwartz began his career in broadcasting with CBS affiliate WTVJ, Miami, Florida. During his tenure there, he worked on more than 100,000 commercials and programs. This work was interrupted for service with the U.S. Army. A member of Armed Forces Radio and Television Service, he was program manager for the first Army TV station (Asmara, Eritrea, Ethiopia) and worked on location telecasts of atomic bomb tests at Yucca Flats, Nevada.
He later associated with Grahm Jr. College in Boston where he was instructor of communications and TV production, elected president of the faculty senate, then appointed dean of communications.
After joining Mercer County Community College in New Jersey, Mr. Schwartz developed innovative programs and academic services, including the creation of a public radio classical music network – the only classical music format in New Jersey and serving New Jersey and portions of Pennsylvania and Delaware. He also developed Mercer’s countywide cable TV network, a distance learning College of the Air program, and was responsible for communications and cultural events, including the theatre and art gallery.
He was a charter member of the Steering Committee of the New Jersey Intercampus Network, Inc., and has served as a member of the Board of Directors of Eastern Public Radio, New Jersey League of Municipalities Cable TV Advisory Committee, Mercer County Health Planning Council, and as chairperson of the East Windsor-Hightstown Cable TV Franchise Renewal Advisory Committee. He was president of the Board of Directors of the West Chase Homeowners’ Association, Glen Allen, VA and served on the Stafford County Cable TV Advisory Committee.
Mr. Schwartz earned his B.A. from the University of Miami, and his M.A. from Emerson College, Boston.
